The love of God is greater far
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
Than tongue or pen can ever tell;
It goes beyond the highest star,
And reaches to the lowest hell;
The guilty pair, bowed down with care,
God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled,
And pardoned from his sin.
Refrain:
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Oh, love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
When hoary time shall pass away,
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
And earthly thrones and kingdoms fall,
When men who here refuse to pray,
On rocks and hills and mountains call,
God’s love so sure, shall still endure,
All measureless and strong;
Redeeming grace to Adam’s race—
The saints’ and angels’ song.
Could we with ink the ocean fill,
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
And were the skies of parchment made,
Were every stalk on earth a quill,
And every man a scribe by trade;
To write the love of God above
Would drain the ocean dry;
Nor could the scroll contain the whole,
Though stretched from sky to sky.
-Fredrick Martin Lehman (1868-1953)
"That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height;And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God." Ephesians 3:17-19
George Beverly Shea used to sing that hymn. A fitting tribute to the late Rev. Billy Graham.
ReplyDeleteBilly Graham definitely made an impact on my life.
ReplyDeleteOh, such beautiful and powerful words. The love of God....what a precious, precious gift!
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
I really like this song! Thanks for posting it and putting it on my mind!
ReplyDeleteOh what blessed and beyond beautiful words to recite and remember in our hearts! This and the most lovely artwork of the sweet birds you shared is a true blessing to my soul. I am so thankful to visit you today and read this, dear Sarah, and to be reminded of the Lord's unfailing love, our greatest gift in life. This world and its ways can so easily get us down and lead us away from our faith, but how wonderful to have such praises and expressions and reminders in hymns like this.
ReplyDeleteMany blessings to you, Sarah, and I also just wanted to say thank you for your recent comment- as always, it was so lovely to read and I thank you so much for visiting and leaving it! Hoping you and your sweet family are having a wonderful start to your week.
Hugs to you,
Jazzmin
