The First Fire of the Season

The night before last Adam built the first fire in our wood burning stove. Growing up my family always used wood as the main source of heat in our home. I love the cozy feel, the great smoky smell and orange fire glow. I made tea for Adam and I as he tended the fire, and once we had a nice little fire started we sat back to enjoy the warmth.

The stove was my mom's wedding gift to us. Since the stove is new we had to begin with small fires in order to cure the paint. It certainly makes the house cozy, and takes away the dampness in the air.

Our cat Winston seems to be in approval of the wood stove, and fall in general. He has spent a lot of time outside chasing leaves, and when not outside chasing leaves, inside admiring the leaves. : )

  1. Very cozy looking! We tried to get a wood burning stove last year, but when they came to install it they found that, low and behold, our fireplace wasn't high enough for it to fit! We were very disappointed. Maybe in the new house...

  3. What a lovely post! Your home looks so cozy! I love your wood burning stove. How wonderful to have for Fall and Winter. Your descriptions of it in it's coziness and sitting back and taking in the warmth made me feel like I was right in front of it.
You photos and writing are always such a joy to see and read. The photo of Winston is so sweet, too, and the light is coming in so beautifully.

I hope you are having a very blessed weekend, Sarah!!

    Hugs and blessings,

  6. There is nothing that warms you as nicely as a wood burner stove :) We have one as well and have enjoyed several fires. In fact, we have had a fire going all day today and the weather report is calling for snow - I love it :) Your cat, Winston, is adorable and reminds me of our Rosie. Thank you for sharing your lovely post with us, sweet Sarah.

    Hugs to you!

  7. We love our wood stove and have been using it for a few weeks now. There's just something cozy about a wood burning stove, isn't there? It's chilly here today, so the fire will be going most of the day.

Hope you have a wonderful day!
    Blessings,
    Amy

  8. Hello, I also praise God for our wood stove! It really makes us so warm and has saved us hundreds of dollars over the years. My kitty thinks we light the wood stove just for her :) Silly Kitty!
I have been doing some sewing this last past week (Aprons) I really loved your vintage style... I usually make the bib style. I have also been learning to make necklaces. As if I were not busy enough. I bought some cotton yarn and have started a dishcloth...
I so enjoy seeing your new post! I would just love it if you would consider adding my blog to your sidebar! I would love to get to know you better!
    Blessings, Roxy
