My Favorite Coleslaw Recipe

One of my contributions to the Easter meal at mom's house was coleslaw. Over the years coleslaw has become an essential addition to each holiday meal. This recipe has been a favorite in my family for years. It is so easy (I use my food processor to shred all of the vegetables) and it is delicious! Unlike most coleslaw recipes this one does not call for mayonnaise, which means it lasts longer. We also like to add this coleslaw to sandwiches and burgers.

Coleslaw-

1 med. Head cabbage
1 lg. carrot
1 med. Onion
1 green pepper
2/3 cup vinegar
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 tsp. salt
½ tsp. celery seed

Shred cabbage, carrot and onion. Chop green pepper. Combine vinegar, sugar, oil, salt and celery seed. Pour over vegetables. Chill.

  1. Yummy! Your coleslaw looks and sounds delicious, my friend! I love coleslaw, but my husband is not too fond of it so I don't make it often. The reason he doesn't like it is because of the mayo so your recipe would be one he would enjoy :) Thank you so much, dear Sarah for sharing with Roses of Inspiration. Enjoy your day! Hugs!

  6. Sarah, I usually make a mayonnaise coleslaw, but this one sounds really good too! I just don't understand people who don't like cabbage! :-)

  8. I love coleslaw and I make mine just the way my mother made her's - with cabbage, carrot (grated), onion (diced), cheese (grated) with pine nuts, mayonnaise and a drizzle of maple syrup. I have never thought of using celery seeds - must give them a try.
