October

"There is no season when such pleasant and sunny spots may be lighted on, and produce so pleasant an effect on
the feelings, as now in October."
-  Nathaniel Hawthorne

October's Bright Blue Weather

"When gentians roll their fingers tight
To save them for the morning,
And chestnuts fall from satin burrs
Without a sound of warning;

When on the ground red apples lie
In piles like jewels shining,
And redder still on old stone walls
Are leaves of woodbine twining;

When all the lovely wayside things
Their white-winged seeds are sowing,
And in the fields still green and fair,
Late aftermaths are growing;

When springs run low, and on the brooks,
In idle golden freighting,
Bright leaves sink noiseless in the hush
Of woods, for winter waiting;

When comrades seek sweet country haunts,
By twos and twos together,
And count like misers, hour by hour,
October's bright blue weather."
-  Helen Hunt Jackson

Hope you all have been enjoying a beautiful start to October. Here is upstate New York we have been blessed with truly lovely autumnal weather. The foliage is reaching peak in our area. It is such a treat to see God's handiwork on each and every tree.

Yesterday I baked my second apple pie of the season, and pumpkin is sneaking into many of the treats we are enjoying. I love the cozy flavors and feelings this time of year brings.

May you have a blessed start to your week!

"Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth. Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs." Psalm 100:1&2

  2. Here in Colorado the trees have been quite beautiful this Autumn. The aspen trees and their leaves are green at the bottom than the middles are yellow and the very tops are bright orange. We got snow on Friday and it's been quite cold here so we have been enjoying our fireplace for the last week - it makes the home so nice and cozy :) Thank you for sharing this beautiful post with us. Your blog is always a joy to visit and a breath of fresh air. May you have a blessed week, dear Sarah! Hugs and blessings.

  3. Like your quotes and poem. :-) Autumn is slow in coming as we are having an Indian summer, but the nights are getting cooler, and the days are pleasant. The leaves are slow in turning and there's still lots of green around, which is good too.
    Enjoy your week!

  4. What a lovely and beautiful post! Love your beautiful first photo of the glorious changing leaves, and the poem! And I don't think I had heard of that Autumn acronym- it describes Autumn so wonderfully. I love words like that that describe the coziness of Fall.

    New York sounds like it has such beautiful Autumns!! Here in the South, it is still pretty warm overall, but I await colder and crisper days like I hear have already arrived in states like yours and in Pennsylvania and Vermont. How lovely that must be!

    Baking pies this time of year is so much fun- you have my mouth watering at the mention of apple pies, and I bet yours turned out delicious.

    I hope you have a wonderful day, Sarah!
    Blessings!

  6. Hi There! I love Fall! I love all the pretty colors in all the leaves, the crispness in the air. The warm and coziness by the fire. It just doesn't get any better than that. I however, agree with Roxy, the winters do seem to be getting longer, I'm not much for the freezing part! Happy Fall to you!

    In God's Grace,
    Amy
